Pre-Community Board Meeting To Do List
Bernadette gave us a task list that needed to be done before we request to speak with the community board.
First and foremost was having an organization. It doesn't need to be incorporated or even formally organized nor does it need to represent a consensus of dog run users. It just needs to be a group willing to be responsible for the dog run which the CB also feels is up to the task of doing so (commitment, a plan, cash, plays well with Bernadette's group, etc).
Here were the bullet points I remember. We need volunteers to take on some of these.
Grow membership to at least 25.
We're currently at 13.
Establish a treasury
Currently at ~$430.
Establish dog run rules
The dog run already has a posted set of rules so I wonder if Bernadette meant rules for the group. Anyone catch that? Who wants to do this task?
Develop a plan
There would be a Plan A (remain at current site) and Plan B (move the dog run). Both plans would include a request for a new fence.
Plan A would also include how we will deal with these noise and cosmetic complaints, regular clean-up of poop, police offenders, proposed plantings, establish a contact list for the city and for emergencies, how we will raise money, etc.
Plan B would include most of the above but would probably need to include dimensions, photos of the current site, a drawing of the proposed dog run, where the gate would be, etc.
Build a presentation
Powerpoint? Will the CB have a projector? How long should it be? Should Plan B be presented as a fallback option or the primary request? Another question is whether we pitch Plan B as the primary or a fallback option. It might be good to do the latter regardless because then it could be presented as a compromise if we run into flak on Plan A.
Appoint a presentation committee
No more than three, hopefully well-dressed, articulate and presentable. Do we have any members like that or can we rent? Bernadette said she'd go with us but not present.
The Powerpoint is covered
Thanks, Sakura. Jennifer and Bethann are working on that. Jennifer wrote a good proposal too, which could also serve as the intro for the Powerpoint.
If you want to draft some by-laws (rules) nobody is doing that.
By-laws and wood chips
Sure, I'd be happy to do that. I'll try to get that done this week.
Meanwhile, I was running tonight in Owls Head Park and up on the hill (where the paved sitting area is located), I came across several big piles of wood chips. Do you think there would be any chance we could have the wood chips transported to the dog run (or if we could do it ourselves)?
I hope not.
We don't need any more wood chips. Those wood chips are a major reason why the fence is so low and is rotting at the bottom. They're a lot more hassle than they're worth.

To do list
I'm happy to help out in any way. I make a lot of PowerPoints for work, so I can lend my skills to the presentation creation.
Also, I can do some research into drafting the dog run rules, but would just need some direction. I think Bernadette was referring to dog run rules for our association, but am not sure.
