Hudson

Hey Guys,

Hudson had to go to the ER this morning. Looks like she ate some pork bone that she got outside and was in severe pain and could not even walk this morning. Does anyone know how that ER is on Warren Street in Cobble Hill, Vet Emergency and Referral Group? We were told to go there from Park Slope Vets. They sedated her to take xrays and to do a rectal exam and said she had shards of bone that was causing the pain. She is still pretty out of it and on pain meds. We have to watch her over the weekend and bring her back if she gets worse.

Just wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with the place we took her to good or bad. Thanks....

ER vet addresses

Hi all - would you post the actual addresses or cross streets of the *trusted* 24hr ER vets in the neighborhood (still don't know quite where they are....)?
Thanks!

Here you go

ER Vets

Thanks everyone for your responses, we really appreciate it. Hudson had a rough weekend but seems to be doing better this evening. We're so happy she is starting to look herself again. It was pretty scary how sick she was.

Thanks again.....

Hudson

I've been to the emergency ER twice. Once to the 69th street location with Kiso when he was hit by a car. I'm pretty sure they saved his life. And once to Warren street with someone else. Both experiences were good (as good as a visit to the ER can be).

Good luck with the little girl!

Emergencies

I went to the ER on Warren St. two years ago. My Ruby ate a poisonous plant (or just came into contact with one). It was scary since her eyes/face were very swollen. I was very satisfied with their treatment -- she recovered quickly. Four years ago, she was attacked by a loose Pit Bull and I rushed her to the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan. I waited a long time in the waiting room because there was only one Vet available. They couldn't operate on her until the next day. It was a horrible experience but she eventually recovered. By the way, I've had a lot of experience with dogs eating bones, picked up off the street. My wolf-dog, Thunder, ate a bone and really had a problem. She had diarrhea and wasn't eliminating properly. I gave her Metamucil (a lot of it) for a week. Within that week, all the sharp bone shards came out. My Vet thought that it was a great solution. Metamucil seemed to flush it all out. Good luck with your dog. Carol

That's a novel solution

But I'd caution people to talk with their vets before giving laxatives to a dog, especially one that's already got diarrhea. They can become dangerously dehydrated. My vet in Chelsea screamed at me for giving Paco (my old german shepherd) a laxative after he helped himself to a pound of cheddar cheese at a party. They put him on an IV drip overnight to rehydrate him.

Sorry to hear about Hudson

The Warren St emergency vet is supposed to be pretty good. When the emergency vet on 69th St closed in 2005, I understand that their people went there. I was very happy with the latter. In fact, I sort of preferred them to my normal vet and was sorry to see them close.

When I got Jack he came with all sorts of homeless dog maladies, including an upper respiratory infection that my vet was having a hard time controlling. Jack got very ill one night so I took him to the 69th St vet. They gave him a shot of something which not only made him better the next day but fixed the infection as well. This was after dropping almost a grand on him that week at my normal vet.

The alternative emergency vet is Animal Medical Center in Manhattan, which is like the Mayo Clinic for animals. But you'll pay (and pay, and pay) for it.

ER Vets

Thanks Steve. I appreciate your response. We're taking her tomorrow to Dr Maddon for a follow-up. It's so hard to see them when they are sick.

thanks again.

Hudson

We've been going to Dr. Madden with Guinness and before him with Murphy, our lab.
Both Drs. Madden and Parker did internships at Narrows Animal Hospital on 4th Ave. and 92nd St. Terrific guys and very dedicated (Madden's bedside manner is a little better)
We've been very pleased with the level of service and are very comfortable trusting both.
We've recommende them to others and all have pretty much come back feeling the same way.
Good Luck and we hope Hudson feels better soon
